Obi rejects Uba's list for commissioners

Peace may still elude Anambra State even with last week's landmark victory of Peter Obi as the duly elected Governor.

Trouble is brewing between him and Chris Uba on the list of those to be appointed as commissioners.

A source disclosed that Uba, acting through a front, sent a list of those he wants to be given certain portfolios in the cabinet but Obi turned it down.

Uba is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Also, state Assembly members are said to have insisted that he must not be allowed to exert any influence on the new governor.

"The lawmakers have given Obi two conditions under which they would work in harmony with him. One is that the list from Uba must be rejected, the second is that all projects started by former Governor Chris Ngige, should be completed by Obi", the source recounted.

Another member of the PDP, Jacob Nwokolo, is said to be lobbying for two slots in the cabinet.

A new group made up of businessmen who assisted Obi during the election is also interested in having its nominees appointed.

Obi is maintaining some level headedness amid the demands.

He has reportedly resolved to quicken the process of ending the crisis in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the party on whose platform he won the governorship election in 2003.

APGA has three factions.

One is headed by Chekwas Okorie, another by Victor Umeh. The third has Innocent Ekwu as its acting National Chairman.
